Agimat's Flip Rider Fan Art Contest!

Last month I've entered a fan art contest for Agimat's Flip Riders. It is an iOS game where you get to chose different riders with different stats for you to have the ultimate flipping fun! Okay, enough of the summary.

But yes, after submission and one week of fan votes, I have taken home the prize! =D

I want to specially thanks all my friends that have spread the word on this contest and for all those that have voted. Also to those that have supported the other artists' work. As artists, we really enjoy it when there are someone out there that appreciate our works, on behalf of them, we all share the thanks to make this a good sport for us all =)

Thank you Agimat for holding this for where I have met new friends =)

NYCC 2011 aka NYAF 2011

So the time have finally come! It is the biggest event on this side of the coast for all comic lovers! It is the New York Comic Con 2011!!!! As most people have known NYCC have merged the New York Anime Fest into this one gigantic 4 days event! Yes. 4 Day!

I am proud to announce that this year, yours truly, was able to get a table at the Anime Artist Alley on the 4th Level! This year aside from the regular prints I brought back out the shot glasses (by special request from Valerie Freire) etched with the runes from The Mortal Instruments (which is also designed by Valerie). Also special thanks and shout out to Ground Up Studios for putting together a great anthology about our GU mascots, Nu & Star! For completing this comic anthology I put together a special digital CD just for NYCC. Of course this is a sneak in of a sales pitch, but hey, it's not just for promoting, I see it as really good news to be spread. ;)

Anyway, I hope anyone that is going to NYCC can stop by, check out my other works that is not on my DA account and maybe give me some feedback or to simply say hi =D

I am at table #C25 with fellow creative, Valerie Freire, one thing for sure we love making new friends! =D =D =D

Manga Studio Debut 4

Oh my it have already been 2 months since I first installed Manga Studio Debut 4. A friend of mine gave me this program as a present because he believed that I would put it to good use. Well to say first, I greatly appreciated the gift and also his support in my works. Thanks Rhapsody!

So what to say about this program? One thing to make clear, I've never worked with any version of Manga Studio before so I have nothing to compare with except from what I usually do in Photoshop.

I mainly work on illustrations and craft works but have been wanting to work on a comic. Going back and forth between Photoshop and Illustrator prove to be a bit annoying and also slowing down the system a lot. As much as the version I got is the Debut and not the EX I am still getting a good amount of features.

I have a tendency to work in the highest possible resolution that my MacBook can take before slowing down. For something that I want as a large print I work with 11" x 14" and I set it in 1200 dpi. Least to say Manga studio manages my illustration pages really well and at a faster performance because it takes lesser RAM to run than Photoshop. Just simply for cleaning and inking my sketches it run exceptionally smooth. My whole system was running without any lags or even hints of exhaustion. On the other hand, when I try to clean in Photoshop I have a fear that it will suddenly just crash and lose my work. Fortunately that haven't happened with MSD4.

This program have given me better line work (digitally) than in Illustrator because it easier to control as if you are actually inking on paper! Clean up is just as easy and the precision is great with erasing line (goodbye white-out!) One of the most interesting thing, and I mean interesting that I have not seen until CS5 is the rotation of the canvas. Maybe it was featured in CS4 but I sort of jumped from 3 to 5 but that is another story. I know, it is something that is not shocking but definitely shocking to me because I always have to turn my arm an odd way so just so I can get my stroke correctly.

Okay I'm done raving about MS for now. Someday I might just pick up the EX version when I get more into my comic.

Thanks for reading. =)

Oooopsie Daisy!

So for some of you that actually reads my blog or follow my updates you may have wondered why I have been posting pictures of just food findings. Well here is the funny story. The funny story started one day when I decided to download the blogger app for the Android phone. What a better way to get a good use out of your smart phone that to do all your book keeping, communications, gaming and all other miscellaneous things? All at the same time I actually started another blog to record my food finding. I spend 2010 taking pictures of all the food that I have enjoyed and liked just posted on my facebook that I finally decided to start a blog just for that. It is called "A Foodie's Love from A to Z" It was intended just for me but I also have fellow foodies that enjoys taking pictures of their meal and I invited them to contribute their photos while keeping to the criteria. Anyway, back to the story, I got the app so I can easily post pictures of my sketches and artsy fartsy things that I find interesting via my phone. In the midst of posting I didn't realize that my food was being posted to here instead of the other one. So there, that's the funny story.

Creativity resuming?

So this creative block have been in my system for long while. As much as it is dormant during work hours I do think that it leaves a trail of side effects. It always take time to adjust to a new environment and schedule. This winter have been crazy since the first snow. Every single week it had snowed once or twice. Only this week, I do not remember seeing any flurries. Thank goodness for some warmth! "Oh if only it can last!" is what I have been saying, but as all good things happen, there is also an end. Cold is the weather for the first long weekend of the year. However, as the weather is getting warmer the last few days, and with the Lunar New Year and my dearest daddy's and sister's birthday celebration, I have felt nothing but joy and happiness. The "wall" that have been standing in my way is slowly, but steadily, breaking down. I feel spur of inspiration again and motivation to take on forgotten projects. All I have left to say is that this year I am going to try hard to stay out of this gloomy funk area because I chose to rip off certain distractions and annoyance like a Band-aid.

Good luck to everyone to a wonderful first quarter of the year.

Grassiness!

Tonight I thought about sketching or playing a bit more with Photoshop but in turn I needed to vector grass. Yup, that's right, grass. When I picked it out of the list I was thinking "how hard can that be?" In truth, it is harder than one will think. Especially getting the right feel. You don't want to have too much details like each blade of grass nor do you want to avoid making it too simple. And the hardest part of all, is to ensure that it looks natural and seamless when tiled on a 15x15 floor. I managed to get it done and was really happy with it that I even made one with flowers.

HAPPY 2011!!!

2010 was a really good year, actually reaching the 'great' status. It's hard to believe that 2010 is already over and officially referred as last year. There are a few bumps once in a while but nothing overly crazy happened. Most of my friends had a quite successful year too, both personally and professionally. It was really great seeing the growth others and I am definitely happy about my achievements from last year.

I hope that this year, 2011, will be an even greater year for everyone. Hope GU and OM projects will reach a new level!

As for some nice art resolutions:
1: hand sketch more (I miss the pencil and paper)
2: claim first in the GU monthly comic
3: OM #1 launch in first quarter of 2011
4: OM #2 launch by the middle of 4th quarter of 2011
